Ashley (Ash) Tinoco Sánchez is a fourth-year Sociology major with a History minor at UC Santa Barbara. Originally from Victorville, California, Ash draws inspiration for their research from the challenges faced by low-income, first-generation students in their hometown. Their article centers on the transformative impact of the Promise Scholars Program, a support system that helped Ash navigate the unfamiliar world of higher education. They hope to illuminate how community-based models like this one can help dismantle systemic inequities in academia and be replicated at other universities. Though their career path is still unfolding, Ash is committed to being a voice for change and uplifting historically oppressed communities. In their free time, Ash enjoys creative pursuits such as singing, dancing, writing, and drawing.
