Nathaniel is a sociology student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, whose work focuses on how societies understand and respond to large-scale structural transformations. His research examines the relationship between technological change, economic organization, and collective planning, with particular attention to how automation reshapes labor, distribution, and social coordination. Drawing on sociological theory, political economy, and science and technology studies, he is interested in why societies often misinterpret systemic change and how this misrecognition influences policy and institutional responses. He is especially interested in the role of shared vision in enabling large-scale coordination, and in how emerging fields such as data science and cybernetics might contribute to more anticipatory and adaptive forms of social organization. Nathaniel plans to pursue graduate study in sociology, where he hopes to continue developing interdisciplinary approaches to questions of social planning, infrastructure, and the future of human systems. Outside of his academic work, he spends time reading, hiking, and exploring the California coast.
