Malia Llerena studied Marine Biology in UCSB's College of Creative Studies. She spent her undergraduate years doing research in octopus parasites and studying animal husbandry in the Kuris Parasitology Lab. Malia loved working with aquatic animals and soon after coming to UCSB started volunteering at the Santa Barbara Sea Center. There she worked as an Aquarists Assistant, learning more about the trade. She has now graduated and is gaining more experience in animal husbandry before starting her PhD in aquatic animal science.
