McNair Scholar

Katherine Montepeque Gonzalez is a recent UCSB graduate, earning her Bachelor of Arts in History with a double minor in Applied Psychology and Latin American and Iberian Studies. Originally from Los Angeles, California, her time at UCSB was spent as a McNair Scholar and as a behavioral interventionist with the Inclusive Education and Community Partnership. Montepeque's work in the Imagine Journal was inspired by her parents' personal experience with immigrating to the United States all the way from Guatemala, shining light on the mental health circumstances of the Latinx community in the face a traumatic immigration system. She plans on attending graduate school to earn her Master of Arts in Counseling in hopes of providing accessible mental health care to underrepresented and underserved communities.
