She/Her/Hers
Chiara Cimarusti is a fourth-year Anthropology major with a Biological Emphasis at UC Santa Barbara, and she is also minoring in Applied Psychology. Originally from Santa Clarita, California, Chiara became interested in public health and epidemiology during a Harvard University publishing fellowship, where she explored the relationship between food insecurity and coronary heart disease. Her article builds on that experience, focusing on how these issues disproportionately affect low-income communities and highlighting strategies to reduce risk and improve access to healthy resources. Chiara plans to pursue a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology, followed by a PhD, and hopes to one day work for the California Department of Public Health in infectious disease surveillance. Outside of her academic pursuits, she enjoys crocheting and reading science-fiction novels.
